Pela Case arrives on Back Market!

It’s no secret that Back Market has always sold smartphone cases, helping you give your devices the best possible protection so they can last as long as possible. Now for something new! We’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Pela Case to offer their 100% compostable cases, made with flax straw.

100% eco-friendly Pela smartphone cases

Pela cases are produced in Saskatoon, Canada, in partnership with local farmers, using a blend of biopolymers (40%) and Canadian prairie flax (60%). They are designed to be strong, lightweight, and 100% compostable, with no trace of lead, cadmium, bisphenol A, and phthalates. They are less polluting than cases made of plastic, which breaks down into harmful microplastics over hundreds of years. They also give farmers the opportunity to sell their flax straw instead of burning it. And of course, these cases are not sold in plastic, but rather in FSC-certified paper packaging.

When a Pela case reaches the end of its life, you can simply compost it or send it directly to Pela to be reused as raw material to make new cases.

Pela is also a member of the 1% for the Planet organization, through which it contributes 1% of its revenues to support environmental preservation and restoration projects around the world.

Pela Case and Back Market

You can now purchase a refurbished smartphone on Back Market with a Pela case or buy only the case on the platform for your current phone.

To go a step further in fighting waste, €3 is donated to our partner Pur Projet for each case we sell, to help support the residents of Pejarakan, in northwest Bali, in the management of their plastic waste. Stay tuned to find more about this project in a future article!

Pela is an excellent alternative to buying new plastic cases. Compostable cases are just as effective, and their production generates lower carbon emissions, water consumption, and waste in already overcrowded landfills. Simply put, our partnership with Pela Case comes naturally. After buying a refurbished phone, it makes sense to get a non-polluting case to reduce the environmental footprint of our digital life.

See you soon on the platform!
